Managing Change in Complex System Development Projects 90% of complex system development projects fail due to unclear requirements, poor project management, inadequate risk management and little or no attention to change management, with the latter being the biggest contributor. To address this problem, Idias Corporation and Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS), conducted a change management workshop to ensure improved stakeholder engagement, reduced resistance and enhanced user adoption ahead of the introduction of a new large-scale management information system.
With years of experience delivering cutting-edge complex systems to prominent organizations, Idias understands that while the benefits of the system are undeniable, it is likely that some members of staff and other stakeholders will initially find the changes that are associated with its introduction to be daunting and challenging. Recognizing this, Idias emphasized the importance of preparation, training, and ongoing support throughout the transition process. The success of the system will depend on, not just the technology itself, but also the readiness, engagement, and commitment of the stakeholders who will use the system. Effective change management has been prioritized to ensure a smooth transition by balancing technology with user-focused support and engagement.
The project aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of MBS operations through automation and business processes optimization to meet modern demands. This initiative is funded by the Southern African Trade and Connectivity Project (SATCP), which seeks to stimulate private sector growth along critical trade corridors in Malawi and Mozambique.
